Senior Strategic Planning Advisor

With degrees from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) in France and Columbia University in New York (Master of International Affairs), Marc Jacquand started his career at Crédit Lyonnais, in the origination/syndication department of the US subsidiary. He then worked for the microfinance organization, FINCA, in its planning and strategic development department. Between 2002 and 2005, Marc worked as a programme MANAGER in the microfinance section of UNCDF at the United Nations, with responsibility for the organization's investment projects in Latin America and Africa. As such, Marc was a part of the World Bank-UN training team for donor/investor training programmes. 

Marc has since held a number of positions within the United Nations, working as an advisor on peacekeeping and peacebuilding issues, including responsibilities for strategic planning for political missions in Jerusalem and Tripoli. Recent assignments as senior advisor with the United Nations have included support to the political offices in Yemen, Somalia and Syria, and strategic planning advice to peacekeeping missions in Congo DRC and Mali.

Marc is a member of the trainers' network at the UN Staff College, having run training programmes in strategic planning, programming and monitoring for more than 15 UN country teams. Marc is also a professor at Columbia University, where he teaches a class on conflict resolution and manages research projects on the links between foreign direct investment, natural resources, and peacebuilding. He is also a project coordinator of the Center for International Cooperation (CIC) at NYU on projects focused on mediation and assessing civilian crisis management missions.
