Peace finance ‘Show & Tell’
[Geneva, 26 November 2024]
On the sidelines of the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights, Sustainable Finance Geneva (SFG) organised a “Show & Tell” focusing on ‘Peace Finance’. A selected group of Geneva-based and international actors where invited to showcase their work with investors on this topic. The event highlighted the extent to which in this space take different approaches to the topic of “peace finance”.
Alongside colleagues from DCAF, Heartland Initiative, Peace Dividend Initiative, PRI advance, and UNDP, TrustWorks’ Research and Programme Officer, Simon Ehmsen, shared some insights into our work on Peace Finance in the context of our partnership with asset management firm, de Pury Pictet Turrettini (PPT). The pitch focused on the three key aspects of the partnership:
- Intended objectives:
- Supporting portfolio companies operating in or sourcing from FCS to have appropriate policies and governance processes in place to manage their presence in these areas.
- Enabling portfolio companies to undertake heightened human rights due diligence assessments and action plans related to their business activities in FCS, and to implement them appropriately.
- Impacts so far:
- Leveraging the partnership with PPT to raise awareness amongst other investors, including in partnership with Heartland Initiative.
- Building on the PPT partnership to engage key actors on responsible business in conflict-affected areas.
- Follow up engagements with around 50% of the total portfolio, leading to significant active partnerships.
- Next steps
- Continue engaging with companies and tracking their progress in our company benchmarking.
- Developing additional materials for companies on peace finance and responsible business in conflict-affected areas
